Rizwan Khan is a muslim child who grew up with his mother (Zarina Wahad) in the borivali section of mumbai. Rizwan has Asperger Syndrome. As an adult, Rizwan (Shah Rukh Khan) falls in love with single mother Mandira (Kajol) who lives in San Francisco. While not focussing on the events of 9/11, the storyline explores the period afterwards. At that time, authorities arrest and detain Rizwan, after interpreting the visible aspects of the conditions as 'suspicious' behaviour.
